beth-high by the first of july!?!?

if you grew up in a farming community you know the saying “knee-high by the fourth of july.” for those of you who are saying “what?!?!” it means that corn should be about knee-high by the fourth of july for a decent crop. somehow, this year’s corn crops are doing very well. on our way home from erin and brett’s wedding, matt and i were shocked at how far along this year's crops are. as we drove down one of the many country roads we take back to rochester, i exclaimed “that corn’s as tall as me! stop the car! i wanna see if it really is!” sure enough…it was “beth-high on the first of july!”
